The first Ukrainian translation of George Orwell's allegorical tale "Animal Farm" was published in 1947 and was intended for Ukrainian refugees residing in displaced persons camps. The translation was done by Ihor Shevchenko under the pseudonym Ivan Cherniatynskyi. This edition returns this earlier translation to readers — a significant contribution to Ukrainian culture. In addition to the author's foreword and the translation itself, the book includes an afterword revealing the relationship between the author and the translator, a detailed chronology of the translation's creation, newspaper announcements and reviews, as well as correspondence related to this translation.
