Oleksandr Dovzhenko (1894—1956) was a Ukrainian Soviet film director, the founder of poetic cinema, the creator of a new literary genre — film stories. Dovzhenko directed 14 feature and documentary films, wrote 15 literary scripts and screenplays, two plays, an autobiographical novel, and more than 20 short stories.
